Welcome to Time Math.
In first and second grade students start to work with analog clocks. There are three drills here that help students work with analog clocks, they are:
- Analog Clock Flashcards
- Here a student will be presented an analog clock with a time on it, and they will be asked to enter the time on the clock.
- Analog Clock Compare
- The student will be presented with two analog clocks and will have to indicate if which greater, lesser or if they are equal.
- Analog Time Difference
- The student will be asked to determine the time difference between two analog clocks.
- Time and Date
- Non-Analog time and date difference computations.
About analog time... we have 12 hour clocks and they don't indicate the difference between AM and PM. Remmeber the goal here is to tecach how to read an analog clock. The difference between AM and PM is adding 12 to the number. There is a certain assumption on our part that a student will be able to add 12 and that drilling for that ability is not worthwhile. Yes, a number of parents have said "what about AM and PM?" but it should be noted that we have been running these drills for some time and not one teacher has asked about it. To misquote Forrest Gump, that's all we have to say about the AM/PM issues surrounding the analog time drills.
